After seeing Hydra, now SubEthaEdit, I’ve always wanted something like it on Windows, preferably on Microsoft Word (as that’s what EVERYONE uses anyway, ugh). This feature in Office required Microsoft SharePoint Services, which comes with a huge price that wanting to be able to edit stuff in a small group for a project just doesn’t justify paying for it (as if anything does).

  • I’ve finally found something that’s like SubEthaEdit for Windows (and Mac and Linux, with even a dedicated server): MoonEdit. It’s free too, but not open source and doesn’t have support for non-block fonts.
  • This blog post refers to InstaColl and JYBE, but I don’t like the looks of either.
  • Chalks is currently the most advanced open source implementation of a collaborative editor.

These links provide a huge insight to what is actually required in order to successfully implement something like this:
